Coast Guard seizes smuggled Indian goods worth over 16 crore taka in dhaka
Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized smuggled goods worth approximately 16.04 crore Taka in a special operation on the night of November 22, 2024.
Lieutenant Commander Khondokar Munif Taki, the media officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters, confirmed that the operation was launched based on a tip-off about an illegal consignment of Indian goods entering Dhaka via Narayanganj. Acting on the information, the Coast Guard's Pagla Station initiated a chase along the Narayanganj-Dhaka route.
A suspicious truck was flagged down near Shibu Market in the Fatulla police station area, but it attempted to flee. The Coast Guard team pursued the truck, apprehended the driver, and seized the vehicle.
Upon inspection, the Coast Guard recovered a large quantity of smuggled Indian goods, including 5,338 saris, 1,245 blankets, 186 three-piece suits, and 29 lehengas. The total market value of the seized goods is estimated at over 16 crore Taka.
Legal proceedings concerning the seized goods, the truck, and the arrested driver are ongoing.
