Regional connectivity can help tackle ongoing economic crisis: ICAB president
Economic cooperation and stability as well as prosperity among the South Asian countries could help to deal with the ongoing economic crisis, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) President Shahadat Hossain said on Thursday.
While addressing a press conference on the day, he also said professional accountants would undoubtedly play a part in handling the economic crisis.
Also, the ICAB announced that it would organise "SAFA International Conference 2022" in Dhaka with organisations representing accounting and auditing professions in South Asian countries.
Thirty foreign representatives from Saarc countries including India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal will participate in it. This regional conference is of special importance in the South Asian context.
"Regional Connectivity for Sustainable Growth" will be the theme of this year's SAFA International Conference.
ICAB believes these conferences and seminars with SAFA member countries will create great opportunities to exchange ideas, experience and above all build strong friendships with professional accountants, including those from the South Asian region.
The institute deems that there is no alternative to regional cooperation and inter-connection between countries to overcome the challenges such as rising inflation.
The ICAB president said, "The government is working to strengthen regional cooperation and enhance regional trade and connectivity for sustainable growth."
Padma Bridge is a great example of multi-modal connectivity that will open up new opportunities for regional trade in the country, he added.
He further said the conference would also play an important role in international business cooperation and promotion of Bangladesh as the best investment destination.
"We have many challenges nationally, regionally and globally. But we firmly believe that we can overcome all these challenges through our mutual cooperation, connectivity and unity," he continued.
Among others, SAFA International Conference Chairman Parveen Mahmud, FCA, and ICAB CEO Shubhashish Bose spoke on the occasion.
