UCB organises skill development training for agricultural entrepreneurs

United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) has recently conducted its 58th skill development training session under its agricultural support scheme 'Bhoroshar Notun Janala' in Jamalpur.

A total of 175 participants from 7 upazilas have attended the training event, which took place at Luis Village Resort and Park Community Center, Jamalpur.

As part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) efforts, UCB has organised such training sessions in numerous nationwide districts in compliance with the Bangladesh Bank's directives. These sessions aim to equip aspiring agricultural entrepreneurs with vital skills and knowledge to boost their potential. The 58th skill development occurred across seven upazilas of Jamalpur: Jamalpur Sadar, Islampur, Sarishabari, Dewanganj, Melandaha, Madarganj, and Bakshiganj.

Rezaul Karim Siddique, Presenter of BTV's agriculture-based show 'Mati O Manush' and an agricultural analyst, was the chief guest. Zakia Sultana, Deputy Director, Department of Agricultural Extension, Jamalpur; Dr Md Sanwar Hossain, District Livestock Officer, Jamalpur; and A. N. M. Ashraful Kabir, District Fisheries Officer, Jamalpur, were also present during the event as special guests.

Regarding the session, Rezaul Karim Siddique, Presenter of BTV's agriculture-based show 'Mati O Manush' and an agricultural analyst, commented, "Motivating our country's farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs is essential to expediting sustainable development and accelerating economic growth. Initiatives like Bhoroshar Notun Janala by UCB can transform lives by equipping individuals with immense knowledge and tools needed to thrive in the modern agriculture sector. The training session in Jamalpur is a testament to the critical role financial institutions can play in developing a resilient agriculture sector."

UCB has been implementing several initiatives for farmers under its 'Bhoroshar Notun Janala' project. These include planting different varieties of trees, training for agri-entrepreneurs, and distributing agro-related smart devices such as the AI-driven 'Aro Maas (MoreFish)' device. UCB is also promoting maize farming as an alternative crop to tobacco, installing lightning arresters to protect against lightning, and distributing food production machinery in different areas (free of cost) of the country.
