Walton launches world’s most environmental-friendly AC featuring R290 refrigerant

Walton, the country's leading air-conditioner brand, has launched new models of its ecOzone series AC, claimed to be the world's most environmentally-friendly. These new ACs feature the R290 gas, a class A3 natural hydrocarbon refrigerant with minimal environmental impact.

Walton is the only manufacturer and marketer of R290 refrigerant-enriched ACs in Bangladesh. Alongside being eco-friendly, the new models of Walton's ecOzone series ACs are highly energy-efficient and certified by the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).

To coincide with World Ozone Day 2024, Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC's Managing Director, S M Mahbubul Alam, officially launched the WSI-KRYSTALINE (ecOzone) series at a grand ceremony held at the Walton Corporate Office on Sunday, 15 September 2024.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including BSTI's Director General S M Ferdaus Alam, Department of Environment's Director Md. Ziaul Hoque, UNDP Bangladesh's Programme Specialist Arif Mohammad Faisal, and BUET Professor Dr. Md. Ali Ahammad Shoukat Choudhury, among others. Senior officials from Walton, including Walton Plaza's Managing Director Mohammad Rayhan and Chief Marketing Officer Ghalib Bin Mohammad, were also present.

During the event, Walton Hi-Tech's Managing Director, S M Mahbubul Alam, remarked, "We are committed to producing eco-friendly and energy-efficient products. Our manufacturing processes at Walton Hi-Tech Park reflect this commitment. In collaboration with the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry, the Department of Environment, and UNDP, we have implemented projects aimed at environmental protection. Walton is the first in Bangladesh to produce R290 refrigerant-enriched ACs."

He added that Walton had phased out the use of harmful CFC and HCFC gases in their ACs, positioning Bangladesh ahead of many developed nations in environmental protection efforts.

Md. Ziaul Hoque, Director of the Department of Environment, noted that R290 is the latest eco-friendly refrigerant technology used in air conditioners. He praised Walton for introducing this technology to Bangladesh, marking the country as a producer of R290-enriched ACs, a distinction held by few developed countries like those in Europe.

Sandip Biswas, Walton AC's Deputy CBO, shared that Walton's engineers have developed the ecOzone series with a focus on environmental sustainability and safety. The ACs include a gas leak safety protection sensor and advanced cooling performance features. 

Engr. Ariful Islam, Head of Walton Residential AC's R&I Department, highlighted that the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of R290 gas is just 3, compared to 1810 for R22 gas, making it far more environmentally friendly. The ecOzone series ACs also feature energy-efficient inverter technology, 4D airflow for optimal room cooling, and Turbo Cool technology that cools rooms 40% faster.

Walton has released 1-ton and 1.5-ton models of the ecOzone series. The 1-ton AC is priced at Tk 59,290, while the 1.5-ton model is available for Tk 78,780. Customers benefit from a one-year replacement warranty and up to a 10-year compressor warranty.
