Ctg customs see 12.57% revenue growth in 11 months of FY24
The highest revenue in the 11 months was collected in May – Tk6,502 crore, as opposed to a target of Tk4, 865 crore
Chattogram Customs House, the country's largest customs station, has collected Tk62,025 crore in revenues in the first 11 months of the fiscal year 2023-24.
This represents a significant increase of 12.57% compared to the revenue collected during the same period in the previous fiscal year, which amounted to Tk55,099.01 crore.
Naziur Rahman, joint commissioner (public relations) of Chattogram Customs House, told TBS that they collected Tk61,632.22 crore in FY2022-23.
In the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, Chattogram Customs House has surpassed the revenue collection of the previous year. They estimate that by this fiscal's end, the revenue collection will exceed Tk68,000 crore.
However, despite exceeding the revenue collected in the corresponding period of the last fiscal year, the customs house still faces a shortfall in achieving its target for the time period.
This year's target for 11 months was set for Tk70,573 crore. This translates to an achievement rate of 12.11% below the set target or Tk15,591 crore less.
Among these 11 months, the highest revenue collection was in May. In May, revenue collection was Tk6,502.5 crore, which was 33.66% higher than the target revenue of Tk4,865 crore.
In May 2022-2023, the revenue collection was Tk6,308.91 crore. FY24's May collection notes a 3.07% increase compared to FY23 May.
According to the customs sources, the revenue collection target for FY24 is Tk77,616 crore.
Over 90% of imports and exports are completed through the country's main seaport, where Chattogram Customs House collects duty on imported goods. Additionally, Chattogram Customs House also collects duty on goods arriving from Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.
