FY25 national budget to be revised: Salehuddin tells UN delegation
He, however, said no unilateral decision can be taken regarding the budget. “But the government will not allow us to generate black money anymore.”
The interim government will revise the national budget for the ongoing fiscal year 2024-25 (FY25), Finance Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed said today (25 August).
"Many stakeholders have made proposals about the budget. So, it will be revised," he told a delegation of the United Nations at the NEC Conference Room at the Bangladesh Planning Commission in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar of Dhaka.
He, however, said no unilateral decision can be taken regarding the budget. "But the government will not allow us to generate black money anymore."
Speaking about the laundered money in foreign countries, Salehuddin said, "Money that has been laundered to foreign countries will be brought back. The Bangladesh Bank is working to that end."
The Finance Advisor also said the government will be selective about taking foreign loans from now on.
"We will take foreign loans selectively. The debt pressure is rising. We will take grants from the United States and the United Nations," he said.
The advisor also stated that foreign loans will not be taken for projects that get delayed for years.
Representatives of 41 UN organisations have met with Salehuddin on the day, he said, adding that they promised to support Bangladesh's economic, equality-based development.
"I want them to work together. I listened to their suggestions. I will increase equality and sustainable development. Attention should be given to the Rohingyas to settle the Rohingyas in their own land," he told reporters.
