Interim govt strives to set precedent of responsibility for next govt: Salehuddin
Salehuddin, also a science and technology affairs adviser, said these while exchanging views with the senior government officials of Chattogram at the local circuit house this evening
The interim government aspires to set a precedent by its activities to create a sense of responsibility and accountability for the country's next government, Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed has said.
"We want to leave a footprint for the next government," he said at a view-exchange meeting with the senior government officials of Chattogram at the city's Circuit House today (27 December).
Mentioning that people are well aware of the activities of the interim government, the adviser further said if the next government fails to follow through, it will be obligated by the people to comply.
Salehuddin also opined that if there had been no corruption or political uncertainty in the country, Bangladesh would have gone much higher in the world economy. Hopefully, we will reach the target. All it needs is the mindset of accountability."
He also discouraged the attitude that fosters corruption in projects by means of unnecessary expenditures. "All the government departments of the country should give importance to information technology."
Speaking about the extortion business in commodity markets, which he said was rampant before, the adviser noted that the interim government has tried to bring the market price to a tolerable level and within the reach of ordinary people. "It has been brought under control to some extent."
He also said that the interim government's primary focus is on the country's business activities and the normalcy of public life. "Taxes on all daily essentials have been lowered to almost zero."
The adviser also stressed self-discipline among the public.
