Bangladesh Garments Accessories & Packaging Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) has called on the government for financial help to get through the coronavirus crisis.
World economy as well as the Bangladeshi economy faces challenges due to the pandemic. The RMG sector in particular is under threat due to withheld & cancelled export orders by the foreign buyers. As a result, the RMG industry is failing to pay the wages & salaries for the workers, labours, staff & officers and to keep the industry under production.
A press release by BGAPMEA on Thursday said that financial crisis of RMG sector is equally affecting the accessories & packaging sector
The association said is quite impossible for the sector to pay the wages for the workers & labours with financial assistance from the government given the economic effects of the pandemic.
Bangladeshi government has declared a fund of taka five thousand crore for the assistance to export oriented industries particularly for the wages of the workers & labours.
BGAPMEA hoped that the government will assist the industry by sharing the declared fund or by allotting separate fund for this sector.
