Gazipur RMG workers block road for arrears
This caused a massive traffic jam on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway
Readymade garment workers of East-West Ltd blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur's Signboard area Thursday, demanding their dues for November and December.
They took to the street around 2.30 pm, causing a long tailback on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
According to the agitating apparel workers, the factory owner did not clear their November and December salaries and made numerous excuses to delay. Lastly, the authorities promised them to pay only the November dues on 15 January.

However, the workers disagreed and demanded payment of the dues at one go.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Iltut Mish said they were trying to convince the workers to leave the highway. Additional forces have been deployed to avert any untoward incident.
