BGMEA seeks German support for sustainable development of RMG industry
BGMEA has sought potential cooperation and support for the sustainable development of Bangladesh's RMG industry as a high-level delegation comprising the members of the German Parliament paid a visit to BGMEA on Saturday.
The delegation included Members of the German Parliament Renate Künast, Ria Schröder, Dr André Hahn, Andreas Larem and Dr MalteKaufmann, Member of Budget Committee Paul Lehrieder, German Ambassador to Bangladesh Achim Tröster and Deputy Head of Mission Jan-Rolf Janowski.
BGMEA Vice President Miran Ali apprised the visiting German MPs of the remarkable progress of Bangladesh's apparel industry, especially its massive transformation into a safe and sustainable one.
He briefed them on how the industry had made its mark in the area of environmental sustainability, and was putting constant efforts into making production processes cleaner and energy efficient while recycling waste.
Miran Ali also highlighted the green initiatives of the industry, including the UN Climate Charter, the Green Button initiative of the German government, Water PaCT.
BGMEA Director Barrister Vidiya Amrit Khan also spoke at the meeting about the BGMEA and the industry's efforts regarding the transition towards circularity.
They had discussions about the industry's vision of moving toward the next level of development through product diversification, technology upgradation and skills development.
The BGMEA leadership called on the German government to provide more support to the industry to enhance its competitiveness and accelerate growth in a more sustainable way.
