Labour ministry resolves Dragon Sweater’slong standing salary disputes
The resolution came from a meeting headed by the minister at her ministry office on Tuesday
State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian has resolved the long-standing tussle between the authorities of Dragon Sweater Limited and its employees over the issue of salaries and allowances.
The resolution was put forward on Tuesday during a meeting headed by the minister at her ministry office. Representativesfrom Dragon Sweater,leaders of garments manufacturingorganizations and labour leaderswere present during the meeting, said a press statement issued by the ministry.
It is here worth noting that though officials from theDepartment of Inspection for Factories and Establishments, and Directorate of Labour had previously tried to solvethe disputes between factory authorities and employees ofDragon Sweater, no consensus was reached.
The state minister later formed a committee on 1 December comprising of representatives from government bodies, garment manufacturing organizations, and labour organizations to settle the issue.
After the committee submitted the report, the ministry took steps to settle the issue in light of labour laws.
While addressing the meeting, BegumMonnujanSufian expressed her optimism that the authorities of Dragon Sweater would pay its workers' salaries and allowances soon.
KM Abdus Salam, secretary to Ministry of Labour and Employment; Dr Rejaul Haque, its additional secretary; Md Aminul Islam, director of Directorate of Labour; ANM Saifuddin, director of BGMEA; Mohammad Hatem, senior vice president of BKMEA; Md Abdul Kuddus, proprietor of Dragon Sweater, were present at the meeting among others.
