Zaber & Zubair shifts focus to recyclable, sustainable fabrics amid rising eco-friendly textile demand
Zaber & Zubair Fabrics Ltd, one of the leading fabric manufacturers in the country, has introduced an extensive range of recyclable and sustainable fabrics at its 15th Fabric Week expo.
Company officials stated that the move comes due to the growing demand for sustainable and recycled products, aimed at reducing environmental impact and health hazards.
The expo, running until 19 January, showcases the company's developments with 40 innovative designs and 240 new products aimed at meeting the global demand for eco-friendly textiles.
The event kicked off on Tuesday at Zaber & Zubair Fabrics Gulshan marketing office and is open daily from 10am to 6pm for all brands, buyers, local manufacturers and their representatives.
Subhasish Bose, assistant general manager of Product Development at Zaber & Zubair Fabrics, said, "We have introduced recycled cotton and polyester products in this fair, collaborating with multinational leaders in recycled fibre, including Recover and CiCLO Recycled Fibers."
The company has developed several products by using these sustainable fibres, including two garments made with 20% Recover fibre.
"CiCLO produces 100% recycled materials, which often require yarn dyeing since the fibres are reproduced from specific coloured garment cutting waste," he explained.
He noted, "CiCLO, a producer of 100% biodegradable polyester, supplies fibres used in our garments, including two types of pants showcased at this expo."
RegenAgri, another sustainable fibre producer that avoids the use of chemicals and pesticides, is gaining traction.
Subhasish Bose noted, "Most US buyers now prefer RegenAgri over BCI due to the growing demand for this fibre, which prompted us to adopt it"
In addition, the company has developed several products by using jute, pineapple and linen fibres, he said.
He added that the company has also introduced innovative structures to enhance the aesthetics of garment products. These products are being showcased at the expo.
Asheque Md Imran Hossain, the representative of GreenMil—a company that collaborated with Zaber & Zubair in developing the fabric—told The Business Standard, "We are developing some fabrics using Sorona, which can provide stretch and recovery without the use of elastane, making garments fully recyclable."
He added, "The properties of this fibre also offer quick-drying capabilities. Around 37% of the raw materials in Sorona fibre come from industrial-grade corn, making it the most sustainable alternative to spandex, a synthetic fibre."
Md Shofiqur Rahman, executive director (Sales and Marketing) of Zaber & Zubair Fabrics, said, "Based on market demand, the company has developed a series of new products to present to buyers and apparel makers for the spring and summer seasons of 2026."
He noted that the EU has set a target of zero carbon emissions and sustainable products by 2050, considering environmental concerns. "Most European buyers are now looking for recycled or sustainable products," he added.
"Zaber & Zubair is consistently working on innovation and the development of new products. In this continuation, we have also introduced new products this week," he said.
He emphasised that Fabric Week is a valuable platform for both buyers and local manufacturers.
According to company sources, around 1,000 brand representatives and buyers from home and abroad have registered for the 15th edition of Z&Z Fabric Week.
Zaber & Zubair Fabrics Ltd is a concern of the country's largest textile maker, Noman Group of Industries.
The next Zaber & Zubair Fabric Week is scheduled to begin on 8 July, focusing on the autumn-winter seasons of 2026.
