Ctg bourse halts decision to extend trading session amid flak
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) postponed its decision to extend the trading session for 45 minutes starting on 26 January following strong opposition from the DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh.
The CSE issued a letter postponing its decision to the stakeholders today.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the CSE announced a revised trading schedule which was set to begin at 9:30am, 30 minutes prior to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), and continue until 2:45pm, a 15-minute extension from the current closing time.
However, the DSE brokers' association has strongly opposed the CSE's decision, citing concerns about market manipulation due to the differing trading schedules.
In a letter to the CSE, the association said it is unprecedented and unthinkable for multiple stock exchanges in one country to have different trading hours. Therefore, the CSE should withdraw this decision and continue trading according to the existing schedule, the association said.
