Youths urge government to provide soft loans for young entrepreneurs
They also demanded implementation of the National Youth Policy as soon as possible
Youth activists at a seminar have urged the government to provide young entrepreneurs soft loans without mortgage to develop them as assets of the country.
They also demanded implementation of the National Youth Policy as soon as possible.
The youths placed the demands at a virtual discussion on Wednesday jointly organised by Action Aid Bangladesh and Dhrubotara Youth Development Foundation.
The organisers' list of five-point demand include formation of a youth council for the empowerment of youths, realistic and sufficient allocation for youths in the national budget, and formation of a dedicated ministry for youths.
Manager of Action Aid Bangladesh, Nazmul Ahsan said, "The National Youth Policy was framed in 2017, but it has not been implemented yet. No visible progress has been made either."
He said youth development will be impossible without implementation of the policy.
"The country's youths are still neglected. Although the government collected recommendations from different quarters, including businessmen and others, there was no allocation for youths in the budget," he added.
Executive Director of Dhrubotara Youth Development Foundation, Amiya Prapan Chakraborty (Arka) and the organisation's Chief Coordinator, Kazi Salman Hossain, among others, also spoke at the event.
