Armed forces step in post-cyclone recovery

Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force have started their post-cyclone recovery initiatives under the supervision of the Armed Forces Division.

The armed forces are distributing relief, conducting emergency rescue operations and providing emergency medical aid in cyclone-hit districts.

Bangladesh Army already took all preparations necessary in the post-cyclone recovery as the cyclone neared the coast.

The army is currently working with local administrations on determining the amount of damage in the cyclone-hit districts.

146 disaster management teams of Bangladesh Army have already been prepared to be deployed in the coastal areas. They also have 76 medical teams ready to provide necessary medical aids.

Bangladesh Army also prepared 12,500 packets of relief for the areas that were devastated by Amphan.

Besides that, the Army also prepared 16 water purification plants and 14 water bowsers to provide drinking water to the people. Water plants have been installed in Satkhira, Patuakhali and Khulna district so that people have access to pure drinking water.

Engineering Corps took all preparations

As Bangladesh Water Development Board asked the Army's help in fixing the embankments that were damaged in coastal areas, the Engineering Corps has already started preparing themselves.

Bangladesh Army also sent 531 patrolling teams, working to curb the spread of novel coronavirus, with 1,027 vehicles in 62 districts to help the local administration. These patrolling teams will do their task and help stay in contact with the local administration. They are prepared to help the administration whenever needed.

Earlier on Thursday, two ships of Bangladesh Navy (LCU-03 and LCU-04) left Chattogram jetty for remote areas of Bhola and Hatiya with emergency relief with 1200 packets of relief.

Other ships in Chattogram region will also journey towards the remote areas with relief if needed. 

A team of 22 members of the Navy is also going to Satkhira's Gabura union to distribute relief. Another team of 7 divers are going to the district for emergency rescue operations. 

Another 2 ships of the Navy in the Khulna region are going to Patuakhali and Barishal with 550 packets of relief, 200 for Patuakhali and 350 for Barishal.

One airplane and 3 helicopters of Bangladesh Air Force quickly inspected the damage from the cyclone in the coastal areas of Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Pirojpur, Borguna, Noakhali, Jhalokathi, Kuakata and the Sundarbans.

The damage reports were immediately submitted to the authorities concerned so that proper measures can be taken. Another team of 119 Air Force officials started their journey towards Satkhira to help the local administration. 

Bangladesh Air Force has 6 transport aircraft and 29 helicopters ready to use in post-cyclone recovery. The BAF Base Bashar will also be kept open for 24 hours every day to provide emergency assistance.
