Dead giant whale washed ashore in Himchhari
Locals spotted the giant mammal floating near the sea beach around 1pm
A dead giant whale has washed ashore on Himchhari beach in Cox's Bazar on Friday afternoon.
Locals spotted the giant mammal floating near the sea beach around 1pm. Later they approached it and found it dead, said local trader Abdus Shukur.
He also said that the whale had a massive wound to its back which is thought to be the cause of its death.
"Hunters might have killed the whale somewhere in the deep sea. Later, it was washed ashore," he added.
Sameer Kumar Saha, a forest officer at the Cox's Bazar Sadar Range, said local foresters and Himchhari tourist spot managers had visited the spot.
"It seems the whale has died long ago as a stench is spreading from it," he said.
Earlier, several dolphins also floated ashore on the beach during the lockdown last year, some of which were killed.
