‘Rodh’ to organise special photo exhibition on July uprising tomorrow
The moving exhibition, titled “Smriti-Songjog: Chhobi Hatbe Pothe Pothe”, will start at the Shapla Chattar in the capital’s Motijheel at 2pm
"Rodh", an anti-fascist performative collective, will organise a unique exhibition in Dhaka city tomorrow (15 October), with photos taken during and after the July uprising that ousted the fascist Awami League government.
This will be the second programme of the collective that brings together artists, filmmakers, researchers, and academics from diverse backgrounds who are united in their fight against oppression and for the protection of human rights, according to a press release.
The moving exhibition, titled "Smriti-Songjog: Chhobi Hatbe Pothe Pothe", will start at the Shapla Chattar in the capital's Motijheel at 2pm tomorrow. From there, the exhibition will walk to the historic Bahadur Shah Park via Bangabhaban, North-South Road, Ray Saheb Bazar Road and Shankhari Bazar.
Organising participants will carry printed photos collected from a public archive created with images sourced from various social media platforms, where these were shared during the student-led movement in July and the mass uprising in August and afterwards.
"Rodh" hopes the exhibition will serve as a poignant reminder of the nation's struggle and triumph against an autocratic regime. These images, which captured the raw emotion, resilience and determination of the people — symbolising the collective effort and shared sacrifice, will keep the spirit of the movement alive and continue to inspire and unite Bangladeshis.
The performative collective, as its first event, hosted a special programme on "Enforced Disappearances: Separation and Dissection" at Dhaka University on 29 August.
