Royals at Mawa: Toyota Crown Meet 2021
Organised by Toyota Crown Owners and Enthusiasts Club, 20 Crowns of various generations took part in the meet
Toyota Crown Owners and Enthusiasts Club held their fourth annual meet on September 3, 2021, at the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga expressway.
Organised by group members, the meet celebrated all that is good about the classy, rear-wheel-drive Japanese luxury sedan.
Participants started off from the premises of Thai Emerald, Gulshan, at around 11 am and after a fine drive through the expressway, stopped at a reserved spot near the Mawa roundabout. There they parked for an hour and shared their love for the brand, as photographers and enthusiasts alike busied themselves taking pictures of the cars.
20 Crowns of various generations took part in the meet with examples ranging from a single eighth generation S130 to five Fourteenth generation S210 Crown Athletes.
Founded as a Facebook group in 2018, the club has since grown into a carefully curated group of over 1,400 Crown owners and enthusiasts.

In a conversation with The Business Standard, one of the club's founders - Shaker Ibne Amin, explained that he has been a fan of the Crown marque since he was very young. Shaker, despite owning cars of German Luxury make such as Mercedes-Benz, finds his 1JZ-GTE powered Toyota Crown Athlete V to be a much engaging and fun car to drive. He also appreciates the car's typical Toyota reliability, which allows him to park the car away for 10 to 15 days and not worry about it.
For connoisseurs who are looking to get their own classic Crowns, he recommended that potential buyers make sure the prospective car has no accident history. Adding that while local parts availability for pre-1995 models is becoming scarcer, their popularity in Japan means importing them directly remains a viable option.
