KOICA and ICT Division launch $28.5million AI innovation project
The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division of Bangladesh today (9 January) signed a meeting minutes to launch a $28.5 million project.
The project titled 'Fostering Innovative Technology Experts with a focus on AI in Bangladesh' will be funded by the Korean government's development assistance agency as a grant for advancing artificial intelligence (AI) expertise and driving technological innovation in Bangladesh, according to an ICT Division statement.
Running from 2026 to 2035, the project includes the establishment of a state-of-the-art AI Hub Centre at Software Technology Park-2 in Dhaka.
AI-centric training programmes, sponsorship for master's and doctoral degrees, incubation of tech startups, and opportunities for collaboration with leading Korean companies will be among the key elements of the initiative.
Financial resources, technical expertise, and advanced equipment will be provided by KOICA, while the ICT Division will offer the critical infrastructure and manage the operational aspects of the project.
This collaboration aims to position Bangladesh as a regional leader in AI innovation, contributing to sustainable economic growth and addressing national challenges with AI-driven solutions, the ICT Division said.
KOICA Country Director Taeyoung Kim and ICT Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury signed the minutes of the meeting. Other senior officials from both sides were present at the signing ceremony.
Further details of the project will be finalised after the approval of the fiscal budget by the Korean government later this year.
