In a new video published in the actor’s Facebook on Sunday evening, Ananta Jalil took a more drastic tone in his speech against rapists, and backtracked from his previous statement
Amid countrywide protests over the growing the incidents of rape and violence against women, actor Ananta Jalil has recently posted another video condeming the rapists and backtracking from his earlier video statement where he blamed revealing dresses worn by women for inviting "unwanted sexual advances".
The actor's remarks regarding women's dress as a reason for "unwanted sexual advances" were met with publish blacklash.
In a new video published in the actor's Facebook on Sunday evening, Ananta Jalil took a more drastic tone in his speech against rapists, and backtracked from his previous statement.
Ananta Jalil delivered a staunch speech for the men regarding the rape and violent incidents in the new 3 minutes and 49 second long video.
The caption of the newly uploaded video roughly said : "Hate crimes such as rape, especially child rape and post-rape murder have been on the rise in the country in recent times. There is no alternative but to ensure that the perpetrators of this crime are brought to justice as soon as possible. It is the responsibility of the family to change the discriminatory attitude towards women."
"Both men and women are indispensable for family and society. The survival of the family requires such joint efforts, planning, sacrifice and restraint of men and women. It is not possible for a man or a woman to go too far by ignoring or excluding the other. So we want a friendly, compromising, respectful and loving relationship between men and women."
"In yesterday's video I basically wanted to tell the girls to maintain decency. Many have taken the matter in a positive way and many have taken it in a negative way, I don't want to get involved in any debate. So I corrected that. If there was any misunderstanding, I seek forgiveness," it further said.
Jalil asked the men how would they feel if thier wife or daughter were attacked.
He also requested Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to take measures to enact a law ensuing death penalty for rapists
On Friday, the actor posted a video regarding the rape incidents. In the 6.17-minute video, titled "Ananta teaches rapists a lesson, the actor is heard giving some advice to women "as a brother"."
"Women [in Bangladesh] wear indecent dresses inspired by women from other countries, cinemas, television and social media. People look at your figures instead of your faces because of the indecent dresses. They make indecent comments [about women] and think of rape," he said.
"Do you (women) consider yourselves modern? Is the dress you're wearing 'modern' or is it indecent? A modern dress means only showing your face and covering your body with decent dress which will make you look good," the actor said in the video posted on the verified Facebook page of his wife Barsha.
The actor said wearing 'decent' dresses will deter thoughts of rape.
"People will look at you with respect if you wear decent dresses," he said.
