Global Youth Film Festival held in Bandarban
The 4th Global Youth Film Festival was held in Bandarban from 26 to 28 December.
Cinema Bangladesh, a platform of young filmmakers, organized the festival at Khudra Nri-Gosthi Sangskritik Institute (KNGSI) auditorium in the district town.
The three-day function showcased a total of 75 films selected out of 1400 submissions by young filmmakers from 101 countries, said a press release.
The festival was inaugurated by the veteran theater artist and chief adviser of Cinema Bangladesh, Ramendu Majumdar.
A number of films were recognised as best films at the concluding ceremony on Monday.
Noted actress Farida Akhtar Babita announced the names of the best films while film critic and jury board member Sadia Khalid named the winner of the "Hiralal Sen Best Bangladeshi film" on the concluding ceremony.
The awards were handed over by film maker Golam Rabbany Biplob, Jashim Ahmed, Arifur Rahman and Aung Rakhine.
Secretary to cultural affairs ministry, Badrul Arefin virtually addressed the concluding function as chief guest.
The 'Best of the Fest' award was handed to the Qatar's movie "Sh'hab" while the best director award went to Mexican film maker Sebastián Grisales.
The Best animation award was given to Jerry Wang for the movie "My Tagalong."
The Best documentary award was given to the Japanese movie "Empathy Trip."
In the national category, the "Hiralal Sen Best Bangladeshi film" award was given to Ziaul Haque Raju's film "Batik Babu."
'Tarek Masud Memorial Best Bangladeshi Director' award went to Shahjada Al Karim's movie "Ghor" while the award for "Best Bangladeshi actor" went to Masrur Parvez.
A special workshop on film-making was held in the event which saw 30 youth fillm-maker joining the program. The workshop was conducted by popular directors Prosun Rahman, Golam Rabbani Biplob, Arifur Rahman, Jashim Ahmed and Shoibal Chowdhury.
Among the special screenings this year are Morshedul Islam's "Amar Bondhu Rashed", Giasuddin Selim's "Swapnajaal" and Taneem Rahman Angshu's "No Dorai. "
Festival director Jisan Mahadi said the 2021 "Global Youth Film Festival" will be held in the beautiful Cox's Bazar in November
