British flag hoisted oil tanker Stena Impero has recently come to public attention after it was seized by Iran from the highly sensitive borders of Strait of Hormuz after it was approached by unidentified small crafts and a helicopter during its transit, while the vessel was in international waters.

Ownership
Built in 2018, the British operated vessel’s registered owner is Stena Bulk XIII Cyprus Ltd. and is managed by Northern Marine Management.

Regardless of the significance of the British flag on the ship, Stena Impero is Swedish-owned.
Immensity
Stena Impero stands at a length of 183 meters and a width of 32 meters.
Its current draught is 8.3 meters with a gross tonnage of 29,579.
The ship’s deadweight measures at 49,683 tons.
Speed
On a course of 47.9 degrees, the tanker can sail at 12.7 knots per hour.
Latest location
The massive oil tanker was last located under Iran’s seize on the Strait of Hormuz. No exact location could be detected.
It was sailing at a speed of 13.5 knots per hour on the course of 341.6 degrees on the Persian Gulf, prior to being seized.
As per the latest information, Stena Bulk and its manager can confirm that Stena Impero is no longer under the control of the crew and has remained uncontactable since the incident.
Another British operated oil tanker Mesdar was also captured but was released after receiving a warning from Iranian authorities.
All British ships have been told to avoid Strait of Hormuz.
