A murder case has been filed over the murder of a woman who was shot dead yesterday (30 November) on the service lane Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj's Sreenagar.
Jorina Khatun, the mother of the victim Shahida Akter, filed the case against one Md Touhid with Sreenagar Police Station at 10am this morning (1 December), said Kaiyum Uddin Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of the station.
The body has been kept at the 250-bed Munshiganj General Hospital morgue and will be handed over to the victim's family after an autopsy today, he added.
According to the victim's mother, Shahida was in a relationship with Touhid.
"She called up at 11pm on Friday (29 November)," said Jorina.
She said Shahida used to live in the capital's Wari. Touhid, Shahiha's boyfriend, also lived in the same area.
Contacted, Additional Superintendent of Police of Munshiganj Mohammad Firoz Kabir said police are working to unveil the exact reason behind the murder, and legal steps will be taken after an autopsy.
Earlier yesterday, some locals said the 22-year-old woman was seen walking on that service road with a young man at dawn.
They said pedestrians discovered her bullet-ridden body lying on the highway about an hour and a half later.
Shahida hailed from Mymensingh's Begun Bari Bazar area.
