7 more die of dengue, 596 hospitalised in 24hrs
Seven more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till this morning (8 December), raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 529 this year.
During the period, 596 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). A total of 93,467 dengue cases have been reported since 1 January.
In the recent fatalities, three were reported in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Two in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), one each in Dhaka, Mymensingh and Rajshahi Division (outside the city corporation).
Meanwhile, 765 dengue patients have been discharged from hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 93,467 people have been discharged this year.
Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 1,705 people, making it the deadliest year on record.
According to DGHS, there were 3,21,179 dengue cases and 3,18,749 recoveries in 2023.
