Controlling crimes to be much easier if people stay beside police: DMP
It will be more easier to control crimes if the people remain beside police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Police Commissioner (Logistics, Finance and Procurement) Hasan Md Shawkat Ali said today (26 December).
"People are one of the most supportive forces in controlling crime and maintaining the law and order. Controlling crimes will be much easier if such supportive force stays by our side," he said while exchanging view with Citizen Forum at a local restaurant in Dhanmondi.
The official said they are going to every police station under DMP to hear from the residents of the respective areas to prepare an outline for effective use of police in maintaining the law and order.
"We are talking to respected citizens. We are seeking opinions and suggestions from them so that an outline on how the police will work in the coming days can be drawn up. After the 5 August changeover, people have stood by the police. We want to work with the people," he said.
He said Bangladesh police is an organisation governed by the laws and rules.
"None of us is above accountability. What we can do or not, all our activities are within accountability. How much security and service we can provide to you is our accountability. We do not want to be oppressive police, we want to be the people's police," he said.
For the Citizen Forum, the Additional Police Commissioner also said, "You should keep an eye on whether there is a backup of the CCTV in your home and institution."
"So that if any incident happens later, we can take the help of that CCTV footage," he added.
