ICT orders APBn constable shown arrested, sent to jail in 5 Aug Chankharpool shooting case
The International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) has ordered Armed Police Battalion (APBn) Constable Md Sujon Hossain to be shown arrested and sent to jail in a case over the shooting of five people in the capital's Chankharpool on 5 August last year, just before former prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country amid a mass uprising.
The tribunal, headed by its Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder, issued the order after Sujon, who is currently in prison in another case, was produced before it today (12 January), confirmed Prosecutor BM Sultan Mahmud.
The court today also fixed 23 January for submitting the investigation report of the case.
The tribunal issued an arrest warrant against Sujon, who was by then arrested in a case filed at Shahbagh police station, on 1 January.
On that day, Sultan said the prosecution team had applied to the ICT to show Sujon arrested in the ICT case as well on the basis of a production warrant.
The tribunal then issued the warrant against Sujon and ordered to have him produced before it on 12 January.
On 5 August at 11am, APBn's Constable Sujon was seen shooting at the students and general people, sometimes standing or sometimes kneeling or lying down, during protests near Borhanuddin College at Chankharpool.
The video of his shooting later went viral on social media.
