Law to Ban TikTok in the U.S. Remains in Place if Chinese Parent Company ByteDance Refuses to Sell
The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld the law to ban TikTok in the country if its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, does not sell the app, citing national security concerns. The justices delivered a unanimous 9-0 ruling, according to a report by British news agency Reuters. The ruling stated that Congress took appropriate steps regarding the national security issue. However, TikTok remains a significant platform for 170 million Americans. The law, which received broad support in Congress, was passed in 2022 and approved by President Joe Biden. The court also stated that the law does not violate the First Amendment right to free speech under the U.S. Constitution.
