Keya Group announces closure of two more factories
This follows the shutdown of four factories 21 days ago
Keya Group has announced the permanent closure of two more factories in Gazipur's Konabari, effective from 20 May.
This follows the shutdown of four factories 21 days ago.
In a notice issued yesterday (21 January), authorities cited market instability, raw material shortages, and unresolved banking discrepancies as reasons for the closures.
"Despite efforts, operational challenges persist due to non-cooperation from banks," said HR Manager Sabina Yasmin, adding that workers' dues will be settled within 30 working days as per labour laws.
The closures affect over 10,000 workers, including nearly 1,000 hearing and speech-impaired employees. Many workers protested, demanding the reopening of the factories.
Sabina Yasmin said, "Our owner faced targeted harassment by banks, which deducted export earnings without depositing them into company accounts. If the government intervenes, we may reopen the factories."
A petition with signatures was submitted to Keya Group yesterday, urging the reopening.
