AL-era deprived retired officials to receive financial benefits soon: Public admin secy
A total of 764 retired officials, who were deprived during their tenure in 15 years of the ousted Awami League era, will be given financial benefits soon.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Md Mokhlesur Rahman made the announcement on his Facebook today (6 February), saying separate Government Orders (GOs) will be issued soon to quickly pay the outstanding money.
The officials will be given these financial benefits by promoting them at various levels from deputy secretary to secretary.
Saying the summary sent by the ministry in this regard had been approved by the president, he wrote, "The Ministry of Public Administration has received the approved summaries of 119 people for the post of Secretary, 41 for the post of Grade-1, 528 for the post of Additional Secretary, 72 for the post of Joint Secretary and 4 for the post of Deputy Secretary. Separate GOs will be issued for quick receipt of outstanding money by issuing post-based GOs."
The public administration ministry formed a five-member committee on 16 September, led by former finance secretary Zakir Ahmed Khan.
The committee was formed to look into the appeals of the government officials who were reportedly deprived of promotion and service benefits during the previous regime led by the Awami League and formulate recommendations.
The ministry issued a notification advising retired officials who were deprived to apply by 30 September to get redress.
According to the information of the relevant department of the ministry, 1,540 applications were submitted within the stipulated time.
Of these, 19 applications were from the families of deceased officers. After scrutinising the applications, the committee prepared recommendations and submitted those to the chief adviser on 10 December.
They were then sent to the president for approval.
