After a sit-in in front of the home affairs adviser's residence on Minto Road for about three hours, members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have left.
They were led by Abdul Hannan Masud, one of the main organisers of the student body, one of the protesters confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
The sit-in took place after Hannan claimed on Facebook that the law enforcement agencies had not conducted a drive against illegal weapons in his Hatia area, despite repeated requests.
For this, Hannan and others were demanding the resignation of the Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam. As part of this, they set off from Banglamotor to take up position in front of the Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam's residence in Minto Road.
Later at around 2:45am, Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud came and requested them to withdraw their demonstration.
He also assured that a drive to recover illegal weapons would be conducted in Savar and Hatia areas.
On Thursday, the students left Banglamotor's Rupayan Tower at around 12:30am for the home affairs advisor's residence.
Earlier, Masud made two posts on Facebook within a few minutes.
In the first post, he wrote, "Students have been shot at from the house of former MP Mohammad Ali in Hatia, my birthplace. There is an administration, but the terrorists also have weapons. The terrorists have shot at my brothers. I am going. Either motherland or death. Pray for us."
He then wrote: "Home affairs advisor, Mohammad Ali's hideout is next to the Navy camp, loaded with weapons."
In the second post, Masud wrote, "I am going in front of the Home Affairs Adviser's residence, I will stay there from 12:30am. They will be sleeping, and the Awami League terrorists will be shooting at the students. Those who want to accompany me can come."
