Professor Dr Md Syed Ali Mollah, treasurer of the University of Global Village (UGV) in Barishal, claims to have made a cheap ventilator that can be used for treating critical Covid-19 patients.
The ventilator was shown in a press conference at the UGV auditorium on Sunday.
Dr Syed claimed that the ventilator would cost as low as Tk30,000.

"Coronavirus attacks the patients' respiratory system, making it difficult for them to breathe. Ventilators are used to provide oxygen to the patients' lungs and bring the carbon-di-oxide out," he said.
"Since there is a shortage of ventilators in the intensive care units (ICU) in our country and they also cost around Tk8-10 lakh each, I started thinking about making a cheaper one," Dr Syed said.
He said that they will start a clinical trial of the ventilator within a few days.
While the initial cost of the ventilator was around Tk60,000-70,000, making multiple units at once will bring the cost down to Tk30,000-35,000, added Dr Syed.
