Mosquito-borne diseases are completely under control, claims Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon.
“There is nothing to get panicked,” said the mayor, adding: “There has been no chikungunya case reported in Dhaka during the first six months of this year.”
The communicable disease wing of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) conducted a survey from March 3 to 12.

A government report found Dhaka South more susceptive to dengue; two people died of the fever here in April this year.
“The situation has neither improved nor has it deteriorated from what it was last year,” stated the report.
Referring to the findings, DGHS Director (Disease Control) Dr Sanya Tahmina then urged the two Dhaka city corporations for taking up anti-mosquito programmes.
Khokon inaugurated a 15-day mosquito crash programme at Minto Road in Dhaka on Monday.

The mayor also said the DSCC will introduce mobile medical care from July 15 where people could avail free medical services.
Mosquito-borne diseases usually break out in the capital during monsoon as the insects breed on stagnant water in abandoned tyres, plastic drums, buckets, open tanks, and flower tubs.
