Doctors, nurses in Satkhira sacrifice Eid festivities to treat patients

Doctors, nurses and health workers in Satkhira Medical College have celebrated their Eid providing treatment to coronavirus patients.

They find joy in what they do and count their work with full enthusiasm and zeal.

Satkhira Medical College and Hospital has been declared a coronavirus treatment facility and Covid-19 patients of the district are getting necessary treatment there.
On Eid day (Saturday), there were 120 patients in the facility among whom 30 people have tested positive for the coronavirus and the rest have been admitted with coronavirus-like symptoms.
Medicine Specialist and Chief of the coronavirus ward at Satkhira Medical College and Hospital, Dr Manos Kumar Mandal said, "Many doctors could not enjoy Eid vacations this year. Many could not travel to see their family."
"During this global crisis doctors have accepted this reality and have moved on. They have sacrificed their happiness to serve the people," added Dr Mandal.
He also said currently there are 25 doctors, 30 intern doctors and 40 nurses present at Satkhira Medical College and Hospital to provide treatment to coronavirus patients.
Dr Mandal added that though the coronavirus test reports of the patients with symptoms have not yet reached their hands, he assumed most of the patients are coronavirus positive.
Assistant surgeon at the medical college, Shankar Kumar Ghosh said, "We have come to this profession with the mindset of providing service to the people at any cost even if it endangers our lives."
Muslima Khatun, a nurse at the hospital, said, "We have no Eid at this moment. If we take our designated leaves and leave our workstation, then the process of providing proper healthcare to patients will be hindered."
"Especially in the time of this global pandemic, nurses have sacrificed their joys, stayed away from their families to provide healthcare to patients."
"I am on duty on Eid day. Though I feel a bit melancholic, I have accepted the fact and moved on," added Muslima.
Director of Sathkhira Medical College and Hospital, Dr Md Rofiqul Islam said, "The number of coronavirus patients in Satkhira is increasing day by day. This is a result of the carelessness and lack of awareness among the masses."
"The doctors and nurses in the hospital are on duty, even on Eid day, leaving behind the joys of Eid and their family, which is heartbreaking. But we have to think about the people and the country in the long run."
"Besides, the health ministry has provided directives not to leave our places of work during the Eid vacations. People involved with the department will continue providing treatment to patients till the end of this coronavirus situation."
