Transport leaders demand reconsideration of new wage structure
They said the structure was not enough for transport workers considering their working hours and cost of living, among other factors
The wage structure announced for road transport workers has disappointed them, President of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation Shajahan Khan and its Secretary Osman Ali said in a joint statement.
Leaders of the federation demanded that the new wage structure be reconsidered, according to a press release.
They said that the new wage structure was not enough for transport workers considering their working hours, work risk, contribution to the economy, productivity, cost of living and commodity prices.
"The person who was made the representative of road transport workers in the wage board is actually a leader of rickshaw van workers' union. He has no relation with road transport workers. That is why this kind of wage structure has been announced," they said.
"This wage structure proves that people who were in that wage board have no idea about the livelihood of transport workers," they added.
