Bourses post modest gain at opening

Equity benchmark indices of the stock exchanges witnessed positive trends in the first one-and-half-hour trading session on Thursday amid the selling pressure made by the market investors.
DSEX, the key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) increased 14.38 points - to reach at 4,977 till 11:30 am.
Moreover, the Shariah-based DSES index rose 1.75 points to settle at 1,122 and the blue-chip index DS30 gained 8 points to stand at 1,704.
Turnover, an important market indicator, on the DSE trading floor upturned by 7% to Tk355.67 crore in the corresponding period.
Out of the 347 issues traded during the same time frame, DSE had 175 gainers against 103 losers, while prices of 69 scrips remained unchanged.
Bangladesh Export Import Company Limited was the most traded stock till filing of this report with shares worth Tk283 million changing hands, closely followed by Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited, Continental Insurance Limited, Paramount Textile Limited, BRAC Bank Limited, and Bangladesh Finance and Investment Company Limited.
Meanwhile, the benchmark index CASPI at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) gained 29 points to close at 14,196.
Of the total 166 issues traded till then, 79 gained, 52 declined, and 35 issues remained unchanged with Tk124 million in turnover.
