Manik complains of being thrown out of vote-counting room
Manik is competing in the election for the President post as an independent candidate. He ran his campaign on his own and as he has no representative, Manik himself wanted to be in in the vote-counting rooms. But he was not allowed to do so.
Voting of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) ended on 6 PM and now, the votes are being counted. Presidential candidate Shafiqul Islam Manik has put up the accusation that he was kicked out of the vote-counting room as he wanted to stay there while the votes were being counted.
Manik is competing in the election for the President post as an independent candidate. He ran his campaign on his own and as he has no representative, Manik himself wanted to be in in the vote-counting rooms. But he was not allowed to do so.
Manik's complaint was that he could not stay in the room but another Presidential candidate, Kazi Salahuddin was present here. Manik also raised questions with the transparency of the votes being counted. He said, "I was kicked out of the room during the vote-counting process but Kazi Salahuddin was present there."
He added, "When the votes were being counted, they did not allow me to stay there. I could not go there as a candidate. A representative of mine should be there during the counting. Or else who would see if the process was done properly. As I have no representative, I wanted to be there. But they said that I could not be there. What happened was an injustice to me."
According to the instructions from the election commission, if a candidate wants to be present during the vote-counting process, he has to apply beforehand. Manik did not do that and the election commission did not give him any instructions regarding the matter. That is why the former footballer thought that he could be there but he was thrown out. His complaint is if he can not stay there, then why can Salahuddin?
