Stocks tumble at opening amid continued sale pressure

Equity benchmark indices of the stock exchanges witnessed downward trends as risk-averse investors opted for heavy sale of major stocks in the first-one-and-half-hour trading session on Monday.
DSEX, the key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) declined 25.54 points or 0.52% to settle at 4,832 till 11:30 am.
Turnover, a major market indicator, on the DSE trading floor dropped by 13% to Tk284.90 crore in the corresponding period.
Moreover, the Shariah-based DSES index fell by 5.21 points to settle at 1,093 and the blue-chip index DS30 lost 10 points to settle at 1,637.
Out of the 346 issues traded during the same time frame, DSE had 95 gainers against 195 losers, while prices of 56 scrips remained unchanged.
Eastland Insurance Company Limited was the most traded stock till filing of this report with shares worth Tk180 million changing hands, closely followed by Sandhani Life Insurance Company Limited, Bangladesh Export Import Company Limited, BRAC Bank Limited, Bangladesh Finance and Investment Company Limited, Purabi General Insurance Company Limited.
Meanwhile, the benchmark index CASPI at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) lost 67 points to close at 13,813.
Of the total 207 issues traded till then, 45 gained, 126 declined, and 36 issues remained unchanged with Tk76 million in turnover.
