FM calls for meaningful global partnership to achieve SDGs
He called for this at the 44th annual meeting of foreign ministers of G-77 countries
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has called for a robust and meaningful global partnership for the timely implementation of Agenda 2030 and a reduction in the risk of future disasters.
The minister called for this at the 44th annual meeting of Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the member states of the G-77, read a press statement issued on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, Dr Momen highlighted Bangladesh's comprehensive response plan with a stimulus package of around $14.14 billion, or 4.3% of its GDP, to secure the lives and livelihoods of the people to minimise the impact of the pandemic.

In his statement, he pointed out the potential loss to the global economy and simultaneous social costs due to Covid-19 which are almost impossible to quantify.
He also referred to the Rohingya crisis that has caused double jeopardy for Bangladesh, in tandem with the pandemic, and heavily disrupted its phenomenal success towards achieving the SDGs, the press statement read.
Dr Momen further said, "The Covid-19 response and recovery process provides us with an opportunity to work together and respond collectively to build a more sustainable and resilient world."
He emphasised the significance of ensuring equitable access to safe, effective and affordable Covid-19 vaccines and other preventive tools, in his remarks.
At a virtual platform, the foreign ministers of the member states of the G-77 and China joined the occasion of their 44th annual meeting, on 12 November, and discussed the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as challenges faced by developing countries in the economic, social and environmental areas.
