BioNTech says can make mutation-beating coronavirus vaccine in six weeks
German biotechnology company BioNTech says that they can make mutation-beating Covid vaccine in six weeks, reported NDTV via Agence France-Presse
The co-founder of the German biotechnology company BioNTech on Tuesday said that it was "highly likely" for the vaccine his company co-developed to work against the mutated strain detected in Britain, reported NDTV via Agence France-Presse (AFP).
However, they could also adapt the vaccine if necessary in six weeks, he added.
"Scientifically, it is highly likely that the immune response by this vaccine also can deal with the new virus variant," said Ugur Sahin, chief executive of the company.
But if needed, "in principle the beauty of the messenger technology is that we can directly start to engineer a vaccine which completely mimics this new mutation -- we could be able to provide a new vaccine technically within six weeks."
