Prominent academician Prof Atful Hye Shibly passes away
The educationalist Prof Shibly, brother-in-law of Foreign Minister Dr Ak Abdul Momen and former member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), breathed his last at Green Life hospital in the capital on Tuesday
Distinguished academician and historian Professor Prof Atful Hye Shibly has passed away. He was 77.
The educationalist Prof Shibly, brother-in-law of Foreign Minister Dr Ak Abdul Momen and former member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), breathed his last at Green Life hospital in the capital on Tuesday.
Prof Shibly is survived by his only son and wife and a host of relatives, says a press release.
He was also Professor in the Department of History of Rajshahi University and Vice-Chancellor of the University. He retired from Rajshahi University in 2008.
Prof Shibly, hailing from Nabiganj Upazila of Habiganj district, was a member of the UGC from 2008 to 2014. He joined the North East University of Sylhet as the Vice Chancellor in 2016.
He will be buried at Banani graveyard on Wednesday after Namaj-e-Janaza at Banani Jame Mosque at 11:30am.
His wife Najia Khatun served for a long time at Rajshahi University's Nursery School and College and Dhaka Women's College. His son Shakir teaches at a university in the United States.
