Vaccination drive: Ahsan Mansur anticipates a resurgence of economic activities

The commencement of the vaccination drive will boost confidence amongst entrepreneurs, and the general public. This could create an opportunity for the resurgence of economic activities in the country.
Dr Ahsan H Mansur, executive director of the Policy Research Institute (PRI), expressed his optimism while talking to The Business Standard on Wednesday evening.
Earlier in the afternoon, Bangladesh kicked off the Covid-19 vaccination drive, with Runu Veronica, a nurse from Kurmitola General Hospital, receiving the country's first jab.

To reap full benefits from the vaccination programme, the PRI official stressed on the importance of achieving people's trust and confidence.
Everyone, starting from the head of government to public representatives and government officials, should advocate for the inoculation programme, he added.
Noting that the pace of different mega-projects had slowed due to the absence of foreign consultants and skilled workers, Dr Ahsan said that in the event of a successful vaccination drive, they will resume work. Consequently, development work will regain lost momentum.
Bangladeshi citizens are currently faced with travel restrictions in multiple countries, which will be lifted if the vaccination programme is successful.
"It will widen the scope of trade and manpower export. The vaccination programme must be globally credible to avail these facilities," he said.
He also suggested that the authorities here should follow best practice examples from countries that have already vaccinating their citizens.
