Vehicle kills capped langur in Moulvibazar

A capped langur was killed after being hit by a vehicle while crossing road in Magurchara gas field area in the district on Saturday.

Mizanur Rahman, forest officer of Lawachara Nature and Wildlife Conservation Division, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
On inforamtion, a team recovered the body of the capped langur from the spot and later buried it, he said.
Primatologists Tanveer Ahmed said capped langurs usually forage at daytime with their team, numbering two to fourteen. The male ones lead the team. They eat different types of leaves, including fruits, seeds, flowers, and tree bark.
The scientific name of this species is Trachypithecus pileatus. They can be seen in Lawachara National Park, Satchari National Park, Adampur Forest Beat, and Rema-Kalenga Wildlife Sanctuary, he added.
