Clothing exhibition titled ‘Spring Carnival’ held in the city
M&D, a clothing brand which began its journey five months ago, set up a "Spring Carnival" in the city yesterday. The event hosted 21 online brands like M&D itself, those who have a strong presence in social media with dedicated customers.
The day-long event was held at Sparrows restaurant in Gulshan. It began at 12pm and ended at 8pm.
Brands which participated included Wave, Haya, Beni Boonon among others.
Owner of Wave Urmila Mohanta said, "The event was a great platform for entrepreneurs like us to meet and greet under the same roof. At the same time, we got to meet our customers right before Pahela Falgun and Valentine's Day, that also felt good."
Urmila's Pahela Falgun and Valentine's Day collection for the event included women's casual dresses and kurtis. "I usually make clothes which are comfortable and casual but they are also designer clothes. I know that it is difficult for women, especially working ones, to match salwar kameez sets. So I design my clothes in such a way so that they do not have to worry about matching colours and assembling pieces."
Her 'Foorti Kurti' series is exactly based on these ideas, the no-fuss, feel good kurtis are fun and comfortable to wear. An experienced designer who has worked at Aarong and Uniqlo, Urmila makes her clothes keeping in mind a reasonable price range.
Owner of M&D Shahriar Dastgir said, "We started our online page M&D four months ago. M is from my wife's name, Myesha Binte Ahsan and D stands for my name, Dastgir. Overall, the online business for clothes is expanding every day. In order to create the Spring Carnival, we started talking to other entrepreneurs like us and most of them agreed to participate. These brands are quite popular online and all of them have their own dedicated customer base. So we targeted them and the response we received from the event was overwhelming for us. We received a lot of love and appreciation."
He added, "For a single day event, we had almost 600 customers. We did not expect it. Even the sales were very satisfactory. We believe that these programmes are good for entrepreneurs because this way we can look out for each other and help each other grow. We will hold more events like this in future which will benefit entrepreneurs."
