Freedom fighters' descendants block Shahbagh for quota reinstatement
They took to the street around 10am and blocked vehicular movement on the busy road
Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sontan Sangsad, an organisation of the descendants of freedom fighters, is holding a sit-in program blocking the Shahbagh intersection in the capital with seven-point demands including restoration of 30% quota system in recruitment for all jobs.
Local-level members of the organisation started the program around 10 am under the leadership of Md Solaiman Mia, the founding chairman of the organisation, and were demonstrating there as of filing this report at 3:30pm.
The seven-point demands include restoring the freedom fighters' quota in all posts; constitutional recognition to the families of freedom fighters and legislation of a law to protect them; ensuring delegacy of the family members of the martyred, dead and sick freedom fighters in the Muktijoddha Sangsad elections; transforming the abandoned property of Freedom Fighters Welfare Trust into a for-profit organisation; and giving VIP status to freedom fighters in all sector including hospitals, government offices, airports.
