Case filed over Rangamati UP member’s death

A case has been filed against eighteen persons over the case of Union Parishad member Samar Bijoy Chakma murder at the Baghaichhari Upazila Parishad office in Rangamati on Wednesday noon.
Ten members of the Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samiti's (JSS) SantuLarma group including Manimoy Chakma, JSS leader and former chairman and general secretary of the upazila committee Bararishi Chakma and eight unidentified have been mentioned in the filed case.
UP member Binoy Chakma, also a relative of the slain Samar Bijoy Chakma, has filed the case a day after the incident happened.
Officer-in-charge of Baghaichhari police station, Anwar Hossain Khan confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been handed over to his family after an autopsy at Khagrachhari Hospital.
The deceased Samar Bijoy Chakma, 38, on Wednesday noon was in the room of the Upazila Project Implementation Office (PIO) at the UP office when he was shot.
Upazila Project Implementation Officer Nurnabi Sarkar, who was present in the room, said, "Bijoy was talking to me about a project. Two or three people were peeking out of the door and one of them entered the room, shot Samar Bijoy in the chest and quickly left the scene."
Samar was a member of Ward No 1 of Rupkari Union. He was reportedly involved in the politics of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samity (MN Larma).
