FExB demands judicial probe into alleged torture against cartoonist Kishore

The Forum for Freedom of Expression, Bangladesh (FExB), urged the authorities concerned for a judicial probe into the alleged torture against cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore who had been in pre-trial detention for around 10 months in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.
Eleven media rights defenders of the network made the demand issuing a statement today while hailing the High Court's bail order for Kishore, read a press release.

FExB echoes with the defence lawyer's appeal to a court to accept a complaint under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act, 2013 against RAB who picked up Kishore from his Lalmatia residence on 5 May last year.
FExB along with the civil society, rights groups, and media leaders requested the government to withdraw the cases under DSA against Kishore. Also squash cases against hundreds of writers, folk singers, doctors, journalists, netizens, critics, dissidents, and children too.
The network also argues that the repressive cybersecurity law contradicts the principles of democracy, secularism, and pluralism and has raised "fear" among the citizens.
Dr. Syeda Aireen Jaman, president of FExB and also Secretary General of PEN International Bangladesh reiterates that the draconian DSA must be repealed to restore freedom of expression, press freedom, self-censorship, and most importantly the trust among the citizen and the political government.
