Gender-based violence continues to rise in Bangladesh
The number of rape incidents was 183 in October
A total of 465 women and girls faced various gender-based violence including rape, trafficking, dowry and sexual assault across the country in October this year while the number was 450 in the month of July.
Women rights organisation Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) published a report on November 3 based on news reports of 14 national dailies.
Among 183 rape incidents in October, 23 were gang-raped, seven women were killed after rape and two committed suicide after being raped.
The number of rape incidents was 170 in the month of July.
There were 30 incidents of rape attempts on women, four were molested while 15 were assaulted physically and acid was thrown on two in October.
According to the report, 45 women were killed for various reason including dowry while three were trafficked. Around 53 women and girls died mysteriously in the month.
