Stocks plummet at opening

Equity indices of the country's stock exchanges witnessed a sharp plunge, caused by investors' selling pressure, in the early hours of the first session of the week.
During the first one hour since the trading began on Sunday, DSEX, the prime index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), dropped 81 points to 5353.
DSEX, however, rose slightly higher to settle at 5,372 points by 11:30am today.
Meanwhile, DSE Shariah-based DSES index lost 16.30points to 1,231.38 and blue-chip index DS30 dropped 24.97 points to 2,048.92.
Turnover, a major market indicator, on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) trading floor was Tk227.36crore in the corresponding period.
Out of the 330 issues traded during the same time frame, DSE has 23 gainers against 224 losers, while prices of 83 scripps remained unchanged.
Meanwhile, the benchmark index CASPI at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) plummeted 171.39 points to 15,578.73.
Of the total 140 issues traded till then, 6gained, 108 declined, and 26 issues remained unchanged with Tk101.72 crore in turnover.
