Protest in Brahmanbaria halts Dhaka-Chattagram rail communication
Madrasa students severed the rail links in protest of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh
Madrasa students have vandalised and set fire to Brahmanbaria Railway Station, severing the rail links between Chattogram and Sylhet with Dhaka.
They demonstrated in different parts of the district in protest of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the country.
Brahmanbaria Railway Station Master Shoaib Ahmed said several hundred madrassa students came to the station in the afternoon.

"They vandalised and set fire to the panel ticket counter, panel board and passengers' chairs. As a result, several trains got stuck at different stations," he added.
Akhaura Railway Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazharul Karim said train services were suspended due to vandalism and arson at the Brahmanbaria Railway Station.
"Madrasa students took up positions on the railway lines. As a result, the Dhaka-bound intercity Jayantika Express train from Sylhet got stuck at Azampur Railway Station and the Dhaka-bound Mahanagar Express train from Chattogram remained stuck at Akhaura Railway Station," he added.
Earlier at 3:30pm, protesters set fire to tires in Vadughar area of the district – causing a halt to traffic movement on the Comilla-Sylhet highway.
