Sisimpur celebrates 17-year anniversary

Popular children's show "Sisimpur", which aims to make learning enjoyable for pre-primary and primary level children, has completed its 16 years and stepped into its 17th year on 15 April.

Currently, the 13th season of Sisimpur is being telecasted on Duranta, Machranga and BTV, said a press release.

Sisimpur has been helping children to identify letters, match words with letters, and create sentences with words. Through the characters of Sisimpur, different elements of the environment such as colors, shapes, etc are taught.

Sisimpur has become an attraction for the children at Amar Ekushey Book Fair. During the weekends of the book fair, a large number of children rushed to the fair to spend fun time with Ikri, Halum, Tuktuki and Shiku. This trend has become an integral part of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair, although due to the Covid 19 pandemic Sisimpur is not organizing the event this year.

Mohammad Shah Alam, executive director of Sisimpur, said, "For sixteen years, this program is being created to meet the early education needs of 3 to 8 years old children. And the goal is also to meet the needs of the parents, caregivers and teachers."

Sisimpur collaborated with the Government of Bangladesh through the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Ministry of Culture etc. The show started its journey through funding provided by USAID which continues to persist to date. It is the Bangladeshi counterpart of New York-based educational television series Sesame Street which has co-produced the TV show in Bangladesh through Sesame Workshop Bangladesh.
